Despite natural stones being classical and timeless materials there is no limit when it comes to imaging what can be built with them.  Throughout the years designers have been redefining what it means to create spaces with natural stones and have been surprising us with creations out of this world.

Here are 5 projects in California made with natural stone that pushed the boundaries of imagination.

 

Master Bath by Steven Meisel

Legendary fashion photographer Steven Meisel designed a master bath and office in one. The  exquisite space features green onyx slabs paired glass and comfortable armchairs and a Jansen desk.  Meisel created a utilitarian space with a paradisiacal feel.

 

Recital Salon by Martin Kobus

On this music room renovation, Kobus toyed with abstract design while reminiscing the Cubism art period. The whole interior plays with textures pairing ravishing wallpapers with mixed metals, brass structures and dark marbles as wall panels and statement furniture pieces.

 

Beverly Hills House by Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent

Interior designers Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent created this head to toe natural stone mansion in Beverly Hills where stones are not only used for floorings or countertops but also as accents and furniture. A large marble dining room tabled paired with travertine tiles walls  proves that all of these materials can be purposefully combined to create unique spaces that create contrast and lighten the space.

 

Patterns by Kelly Wearstler

Interior designer Kelly Wearstler has made a name for herself creating interesting patterns made out of natural stone, especially with marble. Wearstler has proved that porcelain tiles are not the only option when it comes to creating multifaceted and multicolored floor to ceiling designs. Her approach to creating natural stone patterns has proven to be very sustainable as well.

 

Wet Room by Douglas Friedman

Douglas Friedman shower design created a ripple of bathroom trends including floor to ceiling marble applications including details like shelves and benches for a total natural stone look.
